Connect. Create. Cultivate.
The three C’s of communication I strive to live by. Everyday I make an effort to meet new people and develop meaningful connections with those who I value, respect and admire. I believe sincere connection stimulates conversation, out of which arises the opportunity to create new ideas. These ideas have the power to inspire and drive the cultivation of innovative means of change and progression.
I’m a senior at the College of Saint Benedict working toward degrees in Communication and English Writing. I have been fascinated with communication ever since I could spell my own name; expressing myself through writing has always been second nature to me. When it came time to decide on a college, I knew that I wanted to immerse myself in a liberal arts community that could advance my knowledge and understanding of the art of communication.
During the fall of my junior year, I took a strategic communication course with a service-learning component that marked a turning point for me. I took a leadership role in the design, creation and implementation of a planned giving campaign for a local domestic abuse shelter that succeeded in significantly increasing the organization’s “legacy circle” membership. The experience allowed me to realize the great potential of using my talents and knowledge of communication to make a difference.
Through my involvement in professional, volunteer and on-campus projects, I found myself continually drawn to the concept of public relations. I am most intrigued by the potential to help the brands/companies/causes that I value connect with the public and create a positive image that inspires commitment and change.
Since writing has always served as my personal outlet for self-reflection and growth, I am hoping that this blog will allow me to expand my understanding of the current issues, trends and changes in PR, while stimulating connection and conversation along the way.
I’m also a strong advocate of country music, my running shoes, the MN Twins, Law and Order SVU marathons, fizzy water and Target Field in the summertime. 🙂
